Trans Am Class Rules and Specifications

Body Specifications:

Late '60s to early '70s American pony car Vintage Trans-Am bodies only.

HPI part numbers:

17510 - 1970 Plymouth AAR 'Cuda
17519 - 1966 Ford Mustang GT
17508 - 1965 Ford Shelby GT-350
7494 - 1968 Chevrolet Camaro

Parma part numbers:

10143 - 1969 Z28 Camaro
10141 - 1970 Boss Mustang
10113 - 1970 'Cuda

Pegaus Hobbies part numbers:

PGH4001 - 1970 Camaro SS

Body provided deck lid spoilers allowed (not wings). No additional skirts or raised/extended wings or air control surfaces allowed. Body must be trimmed at body trim lines. Full rear bumper required. It is highly preferred that bodies are detailed in race type livery in period-correct paint schemes. Fluorescent colors, wild graphics, chromes and non-period correct paint schemes are frowned upon. All cars should have a number on the hood, both doors and trunklid, if possible.

Tire & Wheel Specifications:

The only tires allowed are HPI tire part #4793 front and #4797 rear, using stock tire inserts provided with tire and any HPI Vintage wheels designed to fit these tires. Five or Eight spoke or Vintage Nascar wheels available in various colors. 0mm offset front wheels and 6mm offset rear wheels are intended for 26mm width fronts and 31mm width rear tires. 8-spoke Vintage wheels from #3805 through #3814, 5-spoke Vintage wheels from #3815 through #3822 and Vintage stock car wheels from #3854 through #3860 are all legal wheels.

Grinding of tire tread is NOT permitted. Sanding of mold seam to remove seam is allowed. HPI Vintage Slicks are not allowed. Jack the Gripper compound is the only allowed traction compound. No other altering, changing or softening of the tire is allowed.

Chassis Specification:

Four Wheel Drive touring car chassis only. Any era or brand 4wd chassis is allowed. No 1-ways permitted, Spool or Diff are legal.

Motor Specifications:

Silvercan Johnson or Mabuchi are the only permitted Silvercans.
Traxxas or any other brand are not legal for this class. See the below link if you have questions.

Obvious cars will have gearing teched. Main DQs or loss of qualifying times for offending cars. Motor timing advance or tampering is not allowed.

Mandated FDR will be 5.8 drivers may have a higher FDR but no lower.

- "LeMans" type starts where all cars are lined up on an angle to the racing line in order.

If it's not in the rules, consider it illegal. The class is based on slower, equal playing field competition with less traction, minimal aerodynamic aids and mostly older carpet racing technology. All decisions of the race promoter (Dan Garber) or track owner(Doug Papka) are final.

You have heard the rumors and seen the flyers. Trans-Am racing is coming to a Silvercan Saturday near you. Body choices-HPI Cuda, Camaro, Mustang. Livery- We would like to see vintage based schemes. No neon Pink dougie paint jobs...:lol: Have some fun here and try to keep a period look to the car. This will be about looking good and close tight racing not all out fast. Motor and battery-Right now will be Silvercan with 6cell NiMH or Li-PO. Gearing -will be limited to a FDR you cannot go below that number but you can go above. Wheels-HPI 8 spoke or HPI 5 spoke No DISH or any other rim. Tires- HPI vintage compound 26mm front 31mm rear only No other tire compound will be legal. Chassis- will be open. Weight limit-Yes TBD right now, we need to get the cars built to see a nominal weight and we'll go from there. The thought is to not penalise the people running their older heavier chassis. As I said before the goal of this series is the spectacle. We are looking to have a grid of cars spaced very tightly by time. Clean driving and tight lines will be rewarded. We will be closely watching for spins or punting. Whilst the race director will have final call your fellow drivers will be encouraed to give you a ration (in good nature) if you are lift, clean and placing other drivers. If you want to get involved contact us, so we can get a body wheels and tires on order for you. Right now we have 8 drivers already committed and a bit of a buzz around the track last night. This should be fun to drive and fun to watch and a great addition to Saturdays. A few have asked about the continuation of SC Sats and we will be announcing the length and $$ for the next round of points series. Those that took advantage of the bulk rate on pricing seemed to all be happy. Look for an announcement on the SIR page and here soon.

This 8 race series is the brain child of Chris Westerman, who wanted to make it possible for the new racers young and old to get together for a fun race series. The series has been a great success, we have two more race night's left for this series and many are looking forward to the next. The remaining dates are Feb.2nd, Feb.16th with Feb.23rd set for the Awards Banquet and Potluck. Racing starts at 5:00pm. COME JOIN THE FUN.
